There is a new bakery/lunch locale in town that is willing to accomodate people with food allergies- Yippee! Gluten Free Goodies is now open at 5211 Kingston Pike. Gluten-free is automatically wheat, barley and rye free. They also don’t use peanuts in their baked goods, although they do use tree-nuts in some- please ask. If you call ahead 1 week, you can have a special cake, cookies, brownies made eliminating specific allergens. Check them out at www.glu10freegoodies.com or stop by! (Comment if you’ve been there)

Allergy Friendly Ice Cream Shop?
August 10, 2009 by jsinger · Leave a Comment
For those of you who steer clear of ice cream parlors (milk, egg, peanut and tree-nut allergic) there is a new option in town.
Menchie’s frozen yogurt is located in Turkey Creek on Parkside Dr. close to Target and they have some dairy-free, egg-free and nut-free options. The best thing about it is that you serve yourself- there are no ice cream scoops to cross contaminate!!! We have been there twice with our egg, and peanut allergic 3 year old and both times we inquired as to the egg and peanut content in the frozen yogurt flavor of interest (do this every time you go). We steered clear of all toppings (these had spoons that potentially could cross-contaminate with the nuts). Let us know with your comments if you have felt similarly safe eating out in Knoxville and share those allergy-friendly food establishments here!

At this time, General Mills is providing coupons
for a free box of Betty Crocker baking mix. To
receive a box, just call 1-800-446-1898, and at
the main menu press “4.” This is a temporary
offer from General Mills. The available gluten-
free mixes are chocolate chip cookies, brownies,
yellow cake, and devil’s food cake. The brownie
and devil’s food cake mixes are especially
popular. Starting this fall, Betty Crocker
frostings will also have a “gluten free” label.
There are now 6 Chex cereals that are gluten-
free: chocolate, rice, corn, honey nut,
